Business DevelopmentStrategyCritical Care Medicine Development And Commercial CapabilitiesIn prior years, we acquired rights to Angiomax, Cleviprex and cangrelor to establish our current critical franchise and we recently added two new compounts, CU2010 and oritavancin. We exclusively licensed Angiomax from Biogen (a predecessor of Biogen Idec, Inc.) in 1997. We acquired Cleviprex in March 2003 and cangrelor in December 2003 from AstraZeneca AB. In 2008, The Medicines Company acquired German-based Curacyte AG and its lead compound, CU2010, which is being developed for the prevention of surgical blood loss. In early 2009, the company completed its acquisition of Targanta Therapeutics Corporation and its product oritavancin, a hospital based antibiotic. We add value to licensed products by employing a focused approach to both early and late stage product development. We have a track record of conducting innovative clinical trial programs and applying novel manufacturing development expertise. We have completed more than 25 clinical trials and have enrolled more than 40,000 patients in our trials to-date. We believe more than 1 million patients have benefited from Angiomax therapy since its launch in 2001. Net Revenues in 2008 were $348.2M. As a result of our experience commercializing Angiomax and Cleviprex, we have developed in-depth know-how related to the practice of critical care medicine and gained valuable insights into procurement processes, usage patterns, caregiver preferences and the evaluation of products by our hospital customers. |
